So, I passed Spring right over in the home decor department. I mean, I actually did decorate my hutch – or what I call my {almost mantel} – for Spring. But promptly forgot to take any pictures before I swooped in and started adding bunnies. This month, one sunny afternoon, when natural light came pouring in our front door, I was able to snap some pictures of my cheery, rustic {almost} Easter mantel!!
I used a chippy old window to form the back of my Easter display. I hung my Peter Cottontail story garland that I made from a $1 book across the window. I think a wreath would be perfect to hang from the window, so you’ll probably see one on the next re-decorate.
Moving to the left side of the hutch, I squeezed in a metal lantern that I picked up at HomeGoods for about $10. I’m pretty sure this will be a staple on my hutch – it’s a great way to add height. I filled a footed metal bowl with bright shredded paper and faux eggs from Hobby Lobby. My felt succulent was transplanted into a whitewashed terra cotta pot and added to the hutch. (This was one of the projects we made at the Spring Fling Pinterest inspired craft day.)
That cute little bunny tray? $2 to make! A round metal dollar store tray got a coat of Deco Art chalky finish paint. When that was dry, I added an adhesive chalkboard bunny silhouette (Only .97! Run, don’t walk to Walmart!) and a pom pom tail. Since this craft was so inexpensive, we made this at our Pinterest party, too!
The center of the hutch holds my favorite chalkboard – I love the color and the pretty scalloped eyelet edges. And because one garland is never enough, I used a pack of felt carrots from Hobby Lobby and some green and orange ribbons to make a super quick carrot garland. And tucked in my favorite Easter decoration of all time …
I mean COME ON! Does it get any cuter?! Camden made this kooky little clay bunny – it’s a bunny, right? – when he was about 5 or 6. It is a little worse for the wear – legs are totally over rated – and he has been patched together with craft glue too many times to count. But I just absolutely love that face and ears. And the not-so-little-almost-14-years-old hands that made it years ago.
On the right side of the hutch, I added a four drawer apothecary, also a HomeGoods find. I l-o-v-e it!! I tucked a metal sign in one of the drawers, added my painted bunny mason jar and a vase full of paper flowers from my dear friend Kelly over at Simply Kelly Designs. In front of the apothecary sits a Willowtree angel, this one holding a bunny. These oh-so-simple angels are some of my favorite collectibles. You may remember I used them in my rustic Valentine vignette, too.
Chris bought this Willowtree for me because I had a rabbit as a pet growing up. She was a white and gray Netherland drawf rabbit named Christmas – can you guess when she was gifted to me? She was litter box trained, loved Cheerios and would sit on our shoulders like a parrot. One of these days I’ll have to wrangle up a picture of her. And my pot belly pig. And parakeet. And three cats. No joke.
But for now, you’ll have to settle for one parting photo of my {almost} Easter mantel!
Do you decorate for the holidays? Since our fireplace doesn’t have a mantel (why previous owners, why?!), this hutch in my dining room is the next best thing. Since Easter is just a few days away, I’ll have to start brainstorming for the next holiday to deck it out for. Any suggestions?
